Vienna Travel Day: Vienna waits....

Yeah, that's my ride to Villach, Austria.

Ciao!!

Todays entry will be short.  Not much happened.  But I'll try and make it kinda interesting.  First off, music as you read.  A little Billy Joel.

So,  it was a sad day.  My love affair with Venezia was coming to a close.  I can honestly say, I can't wait to come back.  I packed up my bag and headed off to the bus station.   Over rivers, lots of stairs, etc.  I took a picture of this hotel from Mom and Ken.

Oh, and here is the entry way to my hotel.  Very magical!!  Just like Venice.

So, I made it to the bus stop

I got on board the bus, and that was that.  I took some pics from the bus window.  They came out pretty well.

I rained most of the time.  Each time we stopped and more people got on, I hopped that the seat next to me was to remain empty.  It did.  We got to the Villach train station and I had 5 minutes to make my connection to the train.  No time to stop for a snack or anything.  When I boarded, I realize that I didn't have a seat number,` nether did many people.  I guess you have to buy the ticket and then reserve a seat.  The lady at the train station in Venice failed to mention that.  And sure enough, at the first stop, I was in someone's seat.  However, the seat next to it was empty and I lucked out the rest of the trip.  I sat next to a trombone player from Austria that taught in on of the conservatories.  He went to Berklee School of Music in Boston.  Anyhow, we talked a bit and then went about our reading.

Upon arriving to Vienna, I immediately bought my ticket for my next destination and made sure I had seats on the first and second trains.  By the window at that.

I made it up to the street, and Vienna is a lot like San Francisco, it seems.  Anyhow, I wanted to get a taxi but couldn't find one at all. But I saw this....

Starts in October... such is my luck.

So, I did a little research and found I could take the street car and it would stop on the street I need to be on.  Well, it stopped right in front of the hotel.

I checked in.  Found my room.

Kinda boring, very dorm like, but it's in a decent location.

Then went to get some dinner.  I ended up at a Saloon, trying very much to be American.   Looked inviting after a long day of traveling.  So I ordered a beer, some wings and a burger.  First real food all day.

Everything was great.  After dinner I headed back to the hotel as I had to catch up on my blogs.

And now I'm caught up!!!

Vienna is no Venice, or even Rome, but I have decent day planned tomorrow..  I have to blow through this city in one day.  A few Rick Steves tours, some good eating, and maybe a concert in the evening.

I must go, Vienna waits for me.

Ciao!!
